A 24 carat gilded beach hut and gilded pebbles to seek out on the beach. The beach hut is far more than a place to change into one’s bathing suit or make a cup of tea on a wet seaside day. It is a place of sanctuary and privacy, with a feel of the domestic and speaks of value and seaside status. Located on the edge of land and sea, and on the edge of living, beach huts are a lasting symbol of the 1950’s movement to holiday on the English coast. Impossible Changeling was commissioned by Towner, Eastbourne were the transformed hut created a space for contemplation and rest. Simultaneously, 142 gilded pebbles – the number of miles between Wright’s Suffolk home and Eastbourne – were placed onto the beach each morning over several days. Originating from Suffolk, the pebbles were infiltrators to the man made beach at Eastbourne; changelings known only by their gold livery and the possibility of being found by chance.

Impossible Changeling was shown at Undercurrent Festival in Shoreham 2014. “It was friendly, imaginative and magical” audience member, Undercurrent Festival, 2014
