A residency on an uninhabited Irish island off the Connemara coast. The Inishlacken Project invites artists from all disciplines and from across the world to spend time on an uninhabited island off the West coast of Ireland and is curated and directed by Rosie McGurran. Artists are invited to respond to the geography, culture and history of the site. Over several visits to the island, works were made in homage to the islanders who had once lived on Inishlacken. Performances, interventions and large-scale drawings were created as memorial pieces reflecting on the requirements for viable island living – trade, shelter, sustenance, warmth and clothing, social and spiritual needs, tradition and education.
